01 Topic
Finding and comparing fuel
How to move from a national benchmark to a practical local choice.
How do I find the cheapest fuel near me?
Use petrol Near Me, diesel Near Me, super unleaded Near Me or premium diesel Near Me. Share your location, enter a full postcode or choose a town, then compare current price, distance and freshness.
Is the lowest pump price always the cheapest trip?
No. A longer detour uses fuel and time. PetrolDiesel keeps price and distance visible so you can judge whether the saving is worth the journey for your vehicle and fill amount.
Can I compare fuel prices by town or region?
Yes. Start with the fuel prices by location directory to find a town, city or regional comparison.
Can I search for one specific forecourt?
Yes. Use site search or browse the forecourts hub to open a station page with current prices and available details.
02 Topic
Prices and freshness
What the timestamps mean, why a price can change and how the source reaches the page.
Where do the fuel prices come from?
Prices come from the UK Government Fuel Finder service. PetrolDiesel preserves the source value and adds quality labels and comparisons. Read how we source fuel prices.
How often are prices updated?
Motor fuel traders must submit a price change to Fuel Finder within 30 minutes. PetrolDiesel then refreshes its website models. A short additional delay can occur between the forecourt, the source and this site.
What does “Prices checked” mean?
It is the latest successful refresh of the website price models. It does not mean every forecourt changed a price at that moment. An individual price keeps its own reported or observed timestamp.
Why is a pump price different from the website?
The forecourt may have changed it after the latest source report, or the source update may still be moving through the system. Check the timestamp and report a price issue if the difference remains.
03 Topic
Accuracy, averages and savings
How PetrolDiesel decides which prices can influence a comparison.
Does PetrolDiesel verify every pump price?
No. We preserve reported values and apply transparent quality rules, but we do not independently visit every forecourt. Read the data accuracy and methodology page.
What is a qualifying price?
A current reported price that passes the published status and range rules for the comparison. Unusual values can remain visible on a station page while being excluded from averages, rankings and savings.
How are UK and local averages calculated?
Averages use the qualifying prices available for the stated fuel, place and time. Coverage is shown because an average from a subset should not be mistaken for every forecourt in the area.
How are per-tank savings estimated?
We multiply the evidenced pence-per-litre difference by a clearly stated tank size. It is an illustration, not a promise about your car or journey. See the calculation method.
04 Topic
Locations, brands and forecourts
Why coverage varies and where to browse the station and brand layers.
Why is a town or forecourt missing?
A site can be new, closed, unresolved or absent from current Fuel Finder coverage. Town pages also depend on a usable canonical place identity. We do not invent missing prices or locations.
Does a location page use a fixed radius?
No. Town and city pages use canonical source-enriched locality membership. Near Me is the feature designed for a chosen distance radius around a point.
Where can I compare supermarkets and fuel brands?
Use Brands & supermarkets for market comparisons and links to individual brand pages. Brand coverage follows the current launch data.
What is shown on a forecourt page?
A station page can show current reported fuels, timestamps, quality status, address, map or directions, amenities and useful nearby comparisons where enough data exists.
05 Topic
Fuel types
The standard and premium grades covered by the public pages.
Which fuel types does PetrolDiesel compare?
The public comparison families are Petrol (E10), Diesel (B7), Super unleaded (E5) and Premium diesel (SDV), where current source coverage is available.
What is Petrol (E10)?
Petrol (E10) is the UK standard petrol grade and contains up to 10% renewable ethanol. Check your vehicle handbook or the official compatibility guidance if you are unsure whether it is suitable.
What is the difference between standard and premium fuel?
Premium fuels differ by octane, cetane and additive package. A higher pump price does not automatically create a saving. Use the fuel approved for your vehicle and follow its manufacturer guidance.
