What super unleaded is for and how to shop for it well.
Super unleaded (E5) is high-octane petrol, typically rated 97 or above, with no more than 5 percent ethanol. Drivers choose it for performance engines that recommend a higher octane rating and for older cars that are not compatible with Petrol (E10).
Because it sells in smaller volumes and carries premium blends, Super unleaded usually costs noticeably more than Petrol, and the gap between forecourts can be wide, so comparing prices before you fill up matters most here.
Treat the national average as your benchmark, not a promise: the regional and town rankings above show where super unleaded is currently cheaper, and each town page lists individual forecourts so you can compare before you drive.

Super unleaded rose 2.6p/l, from 189.3p/l on 19 September to 191.9p/l on 20 October. Over the latest 7 days, the average fell 0.2p/l, which cuts against the wider rise. This is the national average, not a promise about every local pump, so it is still worth comparing nearby forecourts.
This chart follows the daily UK average super unleaded price in pence per litre, from 19 September 2026 to 20 October 2026. It shows the direction of the national market rather than the price at any single forecourt, so use it to judge timing and the rankings below to judge where.
Each point is a true daily average of prices published by UK forecourts under the government Fuel Finder scheme. Days appear only once their prices are confirmed, gaps are never filled with estimates, and every movement figure on this page is calculated from recorded prices.
