UK price history
Daily UK average fuel prices in pence per litre, 19 September 2026 to 20 October 2026.

Petrol rose 1.7p/l, from 172.4p/l on 19 September to 174.1p/l on 20 October. Diesel rose 3p/l, from 196.1p/l on 19 September to 199.1p/l on 20 October. Super unleaded rose 2.6p/l, from 189.3p/l on 19 September to 191.9p/l on 20 October. Premium diesel rose 3.1p/l, from 215.2p/l on 19 September to 218.3p/l on 20 October. The rise was not continuous: prices fell 0.7p/l from 5 October to 17 October before moving higher again. These are national averages, so a nearby forecourt can still move differently.
This chart tracks the daily UK average price of petrol, diesel, super unleaded and premium diesel in pence per litre, from 19 September 2026 to 20 October 2026. All four lines share the same scale, so the direction of travel and the gap between fuels can be read at a glance.
Each point is a true daily average of prices published by UK forecourts under the government Fuel Finder scheme. Days appear only once their prices are confirmed, gaps are never filled with estimates, and every movement figure on this page is calculated from recorded prices.

What moves pump prices, and how to use the UK average when choosing where to fill up.
PetrolDiesel tracks Petrol (E10), Diesel (B7), Super unleaded (E5) and Premium diesel (SDV) using the prices forecourts publish under the government Fuel Finder scheme. The national averages on this page condense thousands of current pump prices into one benchmark per fuel.
Most of what you pay is set before fuel reaches the forecourt: the wholesale cost of oil, refining and delivery, plus fuel duty and VAT, which together make up around half of the pump price. The remainder is the retailer’s costs and margin, and that is the part local competition squeezes.
It is why the same litre can cost several pence more just a few miles down the road. Supermarkets often price aggressively to attract shoppers, motorway services carry higher operating costs, and areas with fewer forecourts see less pressure on prices.
Treat the national average as your benchmark. If your local price sits well above it, the regional and town rankings on this page show where prices are lower, and each town page lists individual forecourts so you can compare before you drive.
