UK price history
Daily UK average diesel prices in pence per litre, 19 September 2026 to 20 October 2026.

Diesel rose 3p/l, from 196.1p/l on 19 September to 199.1p/l on 20 October. The rise was not continuous: prices fell 0.9p/l from 5 October to 16 October before moving higher again. This is the national average, not a promise about every local pump, so it is still worth comparing nearby forecourts.
This chart follows the daily UK average diesel price in pence per litre, from 19 September 2026 to 20 October 2026. It shows the direction of the national market rather than the price at any single forecourt, so use it to judge timing and the rankings below to judge where.
Each point is a true daily average of prices published by UK forecourts under the government Fuel Finder scheme. Days appear only once their prices are confirmed, gaps are never filled with estimates, and every movement figure on this page is calculated from recorded prices.

Why diesel is priced the way it is and how to use the national average.
B7 is the UK’s standard diesel, blended with up to 7 percent renewable biodiesel. Diesel usually costs more than petrol at UK pumps because wholesale diesel competes with heating oil and freight fuels at the refinery, even though both fuels carry the same rate of fuel duty.
Diesel engines typically cover more miles per litre, so a higher pump price does not always mean a higher cost per mile. What matters is whether your local price is competitive, and that varies: supermarket forecourts often undercut the average while motorway services sit well above it.
Treat the national average as your benchmark, not a promise: the regional and town rankings above show where diesel is currently cheaper, and each town page lists individual forecourts so you can compare before you drive.
