Privacy without surprises

The short version

This summary is here to make the policy easier to navigate. The full wording below is the complete version.

  • Small data footprint

No account or payment data. Precise location is used only for the nearby request you make and is then discarded.

  • No advertising profile

Vercel statistics are aggregate, cookie-free and used only to improve the website. You can turn them off.

  • Clear retention limits

Contact and report data is removed quickly, while routine technical logs are limited to 90 days.

Full privacy policy

Clear sections, direct language and specific retention periods. If anything is unclear, please contact us before relying on an assumption.

01

Who is responsible for your information

PetrolDiesel.co.uk is operated by Dev The Dan Ltd, company number 16766201, registered in England and Wales. Our registered office is 128 City Road, London, United Kingdom, EC1V 2NX.

Dev The Dan Ltd is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. For privacy questions or rights requests, email privacy@petroldiesel.co.uk.

02

Information we collect and why

We keep collection deliberately limited. The information we may process is:

  • Contact messages: your email address, the message you send and related correspondence when you contact us.
  • Near Me location: latitude and longitude sent only after you grant browser permission and request nearby results.
  • Price issue reports: forecourt, fuel, price and issue details. The form asks you not to include personal information.
  • Anonymous website statistics: page, referrer, approximate location, device, browser and operating-system information collected through Vercel Web Analytics.
  • Technical and security logs: request, error, device and network information that hosting or infrastructure services create to deliver and protect the website.
  • Browser storage: up to three recent destinations and your privacy preferences, stored on your own device.

We do not provide user accounts, take payments, run advertising profiles or sell personal information.

03

How Near Me location works

Near Me asks your browser for permission before accessing location. If you agree, coordinates are sent in the body of a secure request so the server can return nearby forecourts. They are never placed in the page URL, written to our database or deliberately included in application logs. They are discarded as soon as the request is completed.

We process this location at your request under our legitimate interest in providing the nearby-search feature. Browser permission is separate from your privacy choices on this site. You can refuse or revoke it in your browser and use manual town or postcode search instead.

04

Our purposes and lawful bases

Under UK data protection law, we rely on the following bases:

PurposeLawful basis
Respond to contact messages and partnership enquiriesLegitimate interests in communicating and operating the service
Return nearby results requested by youLegitimate interests in providing the requested feature
Review price issues and improve data qualityLegitimate interests in maintaining an accurate, useful service
Produce aggregate website statisticsLegitimate interests in understanding and improving the website
Deliver, diagnose and secure the websiteLegitimate interests in reliable and secure operation, and legal obligations where applicable

We balance these interests against your rights and use less information where the same result can be achieved.

05

Vercel Web Analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics only to produce aggregate statistics that help us improve page structure, content and technical performance. It does not use cookies, create an advertising profile or track you across different websites. We do not send custom events.

A page view may include the page path, time, referrer, coarse location, browser, device type and operating system. Query strings and page fragments are removed before an event is sent. Vercel creates a daily visitor hash from the request and says it is not associated with an IP address or kept as a persistent identity.

We rely on the statistical-purpose exception in UK privacy rules. You can object at any time by turning off anonymous analytics in our privacy choices. We use the resulting statistics only to improve PetrolDiesel.co.uk.

06

Who receives information

We share information only where it is needed to run the service:

  • Google Workspace hosts contact and privacy correspondence.
  • Vercel provides website delivery and aggregate Web Analytics.
  • Cloud infrastructure providers host supporting services and databases in a West Europe region.
  • Professional advisers or authorities may receive limited information where reasonably necessary for legal advice, a legal claim, security or compliance.

We do not sell or rent personal information. Fuel Finder source data and public forecourt information are not treated as information about website visitors.

07

International transfers

Some providers operate internationally, so limited information may be processed outside the UK. Where UK data protection law requires safeguards, we use an adequacy regulation, approved contractual clauses or another lawful transfer mechanism. You can ask for more information at privacy@petroldiesel.co.uk.

08

How long we keep information

  • Contact correspondence: until the enquiry is resolved, then deleted within 30 days unless there is a continuing legal or operational need.
  • Price issue reports: until reviewed or resolved, with a maximum of 30 days.
  • Near Me coordinates: discarded immediately after the result request and not deliberately logged or stored.
  • Recent destinations: up to 90 days in your browser, unless you clear or disable them sooner.
  • Routine technical logs: up to 90 days.
  • Security incident records: longer where reasonably necessary to investigate, protect the service, establish a legal claim or meet a legal duty.
  • Aggregate analytics: retained within the reporting window available through our Vercel plan, without a persistent visitor identity.
09

How we protect information

We use proportionate technical and organisational safeguards, including encrypted connections, access controls, provider security features, data minimisation and retention limits. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, but we review issues and limit what could be exposed by collecting less in the first place.

10

Your data protection rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to be informed, access your information, correct it, erase it, restrict its use, object to processing and receive portable information. Rights can be limited by exemptions in law.

Email privacy@petroldiesel.co.uk to exercise a right. We may need enough information to verify your identity and locate the relevant record. We normally respond within one calendar month and do not charge unless a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive.

Please contact us first if you have a concern. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

11

Children and this service

PetrolDiesel.co.uk is a general-audience fuel comparison service and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect children’s information. If you believe a child has sent personal information, contact privacy@petroldiesel.co.uk so we can review it.

12

We will update this page when our services, providers or legal obligations materially change. The publication date at the top identifies the current version. If a change significantly affects how we use personal information, we will provide a proportionate additional notice.
